The role of a police officer is critical in maintaining public safety and order and you will handle things most people never experience in their lives. You’ll have the opportunity to make a positive difference to the people of Cambridgeshire.
Your mental, emotional and physical capabilities will be tested as you deal with difficult and, on occasion, violent individuals.
At times you will be working alone on patrol and you will maintain a professional approach throughout, no matter what the situation. You’ll be part of a unique organisation, working with inspiring colleagues who understand the risks and rewards of the job.
You’ll be highly trained and well-supported throughout your service as you help countless people through some of the most difficult situations they have faced, supporting victims and witnesses and providing reassurance in the community.
You could be based anywhere in the county to meet operational need, although we do try to accommodate your wishes.
The recruitment and training process for police officers in Cambridgeshire has changed and we are now operating several entry routes in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University.
These entry routes for police officers include our Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP), our Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and our Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP).
The DHEP allows the conversion of a degree into a graduate diploma in Professional Policing Practice, while the PCDA involves studying a fully-funded degree apprenticeship.
The two-year PCEP has replaced the two-year Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP+). Entry requirements for the PCEP programme is a Level 3 qualification or equivalent and the probation period is two years.
Once you have applied and met the eligibility criteria you will be sent a link to the Policing Pathways App.
The app, created in Cambridgeshire, supports you through the recruitment process. It provides guidance on the various stages and helps you to prepare.
