Using a combination of your feedback and our own data, we have set the below priorities for your local neighbourhood policing team in the March area for July to September 2026:

Tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour (ASB) and traffic offences. Addressing persistent vehicle-related ASB and criminality in and around March, Whittlesey, Chatteris town centres.

Disrupting drug activity and safeguarding vulnerable individuals

To reduce anti-social behaviour within March town centre, specifically associated with homelessness, rough sleeping, drug and alcohol misuse and other low-level offending.

1) Tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour (ASB) and traffic offences. Addressing persistent vehicle-related ASB and criminality in and around March, Whittlesey, Chatteris town centres.

March Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has continued to take a proactive approach to tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and road traffic offences across March, Whittlesey and Chatteris. Through a combination of targeted enforcement, visible patrols and community engagement, the team has remained focused on improving road safety, addressing issues raised by residents and maintaining public confidence.

Throughout this quarter, officers have carried out regular enforcement activity in areas highlighted by the community as concerns. This has included issuing fixed penalty notices for anti-social and inconsiderate parking, helping to address ongoing issues affecting residents and local businesses. The team has complemented this work through regular social media updates, keeping the public informed of enforcement activity and promoting key road safety messages.

High-visibility patrols have continued across all three towns, providing reassurance to local communities and acting as a deterrent to offending. Officers have also worked closely with Community Speed Watch volunteers to tackle concerns around speeding and poor driving standards, demonstrating the value of a partnership approach in addressing local priorities.

A significant piece of activity during this period was a multi-agency road safety operation in Chatteris involving March NPT, the Rural Crime Action Team, HM Revenue and Customs, DVLA, DVSA, the Environment Agency and Datatag. The operation targeted a range of road-related offences and criminality. The day proved highly successful, resulting in the recovery of a number of stolen vehicles as well as multiple vehicle seizures for offences including driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and other road traffic offences.

The team has also continued to make effective use of Section 165 powers, seizing a number of illegally used e-scooters across the district. Additional vehicle seizures have been made for offences including no insurance, no driving licence and driving whilst disqualified.

Overall, March NPT has maintained a strong focus on tackling vehicle-related ASB and criminality through a balanced approach of enforcement, prevention and community engagement. The positive outcomes achieved during this period have contributed to safer roads and public spaces across March, Whittlesey and Chatteris.

2) Disrupting drug activity and safeguarding vulnerable individuals

High-visibility foot and vehicle patrols have been carried out throughout this period to disrupt and target drug-related crime across the district. This proactive approach has enabled officers to both deter offending and identify individuals involved in the supply and use of controlled drugs. A number of stop searches have been conducted, resulting in positive outcomes for both possession and drug supply offences. These encounters have not only disrupted ongoing criminal activity but have also generated valuable intelligence to support future enforcement activity.

During the quarter, officers carried out a proactive vehicle stop in March which resulted in the arrest of a male suspected of being involved in the supply of Class A drugs and possession of an imitation firearm. This represented a significant disruption to local drug supply networks and demonstrated the team's commitment to tackling serious criminality and reducing the harm associated with drug misuse.

Alongside enforcement activity, March NPT has continued to focus on safeguarding vulnerable individuals affected by drug-related criminality. Two Closure Orders have been obtained within the March area to address properties linked to ongoing drug activity, protecting those at risk and responding to concerns raised by local residents and partner agencies.

Overall, March NPT continues to take a proactive, intelligence-led approach to tackling drug-related crime. By combining robust enforcement with effective safeguarding measures, the team is working to disrupt offenders, protect vulnerable people and improve community safety across March, Whittlesey and Chatteris.

3) To reduce anti-social behaviour within March town centre, specifically associated with homelessness, rough sleeping, drug and alcohol misuse and other low-level offending.

March NPT has continued to take a proactive and partnership-focused approach to reducing anti-social behaviour (ASB) within March town centre. This particularly includes issues linked to homelessness, rough sleeping, drug and alcohol misuse, and associated low-level offending.

During this period, a number of Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs) have been issued to individuals responsible for persistent alcohol-related ASB within the town centre. These measures have been used to address repeat offending while providing clear opportunities for individuals to change their behaviour.

Alongside enforcement activity, officers have worked closely with partner agencies to engage those involved and offer support aimed at addressing the underlying causes of their behaviour. This has included signposting individuals to relevant services and working collaboratively to reduce offending and improve outcomes for vulnerable people.

March NPT is also working with partners on a proposed Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for the town centre. If implemented, this would provide both the police and local authority with additional powers to address persistent anti-social behaviour and improve the quality of life for residents, visitors and local businesses.

A significant amount of work has also been focused on a particular homeless individual who is well known within the town for a range of ASB and criminal offences. Through a combination of enforcement, safeguarding and partnership working, this individual has been arrested and charged with a number of offences during the review period, helping to disrupt offending and reduce the impact on the local community.

Overall, positive progress has been made towards reducing anti-social behaviour within March town centre. March NPT will continue to balance enforcement with support and engagement, working closely with partner agencies to address the root causes of offending while taking robust action against those responsible for causing the greatest harm to the community.
