Stop and search of the powers we used to stop and search individuals to allay or confirm suspicions that the suspect has or is about to commit a crime. Without us exercising the power of arrest, it can increase community confidence in the police and make a positive contribution to reducing the fear of crime and making our communities safer.

However, if delivered incorrectly, it can have the opposite effect and have a negative impact. Being searched doesn't mean that that person is being arrested or guilty of any crime, only that we suspect they could be. So how we approach and explain why the stop and search is taking place is how we ensure the individual lives. With the professional and fair experience, we believe we should strive to work fairly and effectively while respecting basic human rights for the use of stop and search to be lawful and rights respecting we can always revert to what we call Plan B, proportionality.
