Hardware store shut due to drug dealing concerns

A hardware store in Millfield, Peterborough, has been shut for three months due to its links to drug dealing and associated criminality.

After a successful application by the force’s northern Neighbourhood Support Team (NST), a full closure order was granted on Mini DIY store in Lincoln Road, at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (5 August).

The order, which is in place for three months, states that the whole premises, including any outdoor space, is closed for everyone at all times, except for the landlord and their authorised contractors, employees of Peterborough City Council, and members of the emergency services.

PC James Rice, from the NST, said: “Behaviour linked to this shop has caused misery for local people. I hope the closure order provides some respite for the community.

“Information from the community is vital as we aim to tackle anti-social behaviour and other crime. You may not see results straight away, but it all helps to build a larger picture that can result in action like this closure order.

“We won’t tolerate crime and anti-social behaviour. If you break the law, we will relentlessly pursue you and do all we can through the courts to protect local people.”

Failure to comply with the order is a criminal offence which could result in imprisonment for up to three months, a fine, or both.
