Husband attacked wife with kitchen knife

A man stabbed his wife with a large kitchen knife in an unprovoked attack after their relationship came to an end.

Daniel Crow, 54, had previously agreed to move out of the couple’s home in Little Downham, near Ely, when the assault came suddenly on 25 January.

Crow was at the kitchen sink when he attacked his 54-year-old wife with the knife and continued despite her screams for him to stop.

The victim tried to block the 10-inch knife with her arms after Crow got her to the floor and had her in a headlock.

During the struggle the knife flew out of Crow’s hand and his wife’s phone was flung across the kitchen floor.

Terrified, and screaming at him to stop she begged him to think of his children but this had no effect. Crow picked up the knife and stood in the kitchen doorway preventing her from leaving.

She grabbed her phone and called the police while running to the bathroom and locking the door later realising Crow had left the property and driven off.

The victim suffered multiple cuts, bruises and puncture wounds to her stomach, arms, hands, face and body.  

Crow, of Lawn Lane, Littleport, was arrested later that day in Forehill, Ely. A number of weapons were recovered from his car including two cans of pepper spray, a flick knife, a metal whip with a bayonet on the handle, a knuckle duster and scalpels.

On Monday 23 June, Crow was jailed for four years and six months at Cambridge Crown Court after admitting wounding with intent, possessing a knife in public and possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid/gas/electrical incapacitations device/thing.

Sentencing, Judge Andrew Hurst said: “It should not be necessary to say the whole episode must have been utterly terrifying and understandably your wife feared for her life.

“She pleaded with you to come to your senses and stop what you were doing. She tried to get you to think of your children, but such was the rage, none of that helped and instead you uttered threats you wished to kill her.

“Everyone who knows you, or thought they knew you, has been baffled by what happened – you have been nothing more than a good family member.”

DC  Luca Bellomo said: “The victim was fortunate to escape this incident with relatively minor physical injuries – thankfully, she fought back with all her strength and was quick-thinking enough to call the police.

“I truly hope that this sentence will give her the peace of mind she needs and an opportunity to move on with her life.”
