Young people from across the county attended a knife crime prevention event held in Huntingdon at the weekend.
The 50 attendees to Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s Youth Engagement Day were from various community groups.
The day included scenario-based activities involving the dog and armed policing units, as well as discussing topics such as joint enterprise.
Joint enterprise is a concept in law meaning that a person can be found guilty of murder, even if they were not the person who struck the fatal blow. This applies if the individual was part of the situation and was supporting the group’s activity in some way.
Following the event, which was held at the Constabulary’s headquarters, it is hoped the young people will go back to their communities and be ambassadors for knife crime prevention.
Detective Chief Superintendent John Massey said: “I’d like to thank everyone who made this event possible. It’s vital that we engage with young people from the county about this incredibly important issue.
“The young people were enthusiastic and engaged with the content. We hope they will take these important messages back to their classrooms and colleges to spread the word and help us make the county even safer.
“Tackling serious street-based violence is a priority for the Constabulary. We’re working hard to address the issue in a number of ways, including community engagement events such as this.”
