I write in connection with your request for information received on 11th October.  I note you seek access to the following information:

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information for the past five years (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019):

- MOT fines

- The number of fines issued for cars without an MOT, broken down by month.

- The total cost of fines given to drivers who have driven without an MOT, broken down by month

I am required by the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (The Act) to handle all requests in a manner that is blind to the identity of the requestor. Any information released in response to a request is regarded as being published and therefore, in the public domain without caveat.

We cannot tell whether these tickets were issued to a car or some other form of motor vehicle as the offence is the same.

2024 data is up to end of September and is subject to change.

The table below shows the number of tickets issued for the offence of Use a motor vehicle on a road without a valid test certificate which have been disposed of by way of a fine.

The fine is £100 and is paid to the Fixed Penalty Office (HMCTS) not to the police.
