I grew up in Lebanon and have been living in the UK for about 10 years now. I recently left university and joined as a full-time police officer, based in Peterborough. Before I joined, I used to volunteer with the police as a Special constable in Huntingdon alongside my studies at De Montfort University. This gave me an insight into policing and whether it was the right choice for me.
The application process is not easy and needs a lot of effort. I would advise you to prepare very well and give it all you’ve got. I found the assessment centre was one of the toughest parts. I made sure I prepared for it and did all the relevant research needed before my assessment date.
The training was enjoyable and all staff were very helpful. It can be daunting and at some stages you might feel like quitting. But personally, throughout the process I have enjoyed it all, especially the role plays.
So far, it has been going really well. You never know what you are coming into work to face, every day will be different. I went to loads of different jobs throughout my first few months - from saving someone’s life to rescuing a swan in the middle of the road.
This career is an exciting career and If you are the type of person who would like to experience something different every day, then policing is the right path for you.
It can be very challenging, although it will teach you loads of different skills and will change you as an individual.
