Online reports
Online reports provide you with a quick and easy way to report non-urgent crime. We have dedicated reports for:
- reporting a crime
- missing people
- domestic abuse
- road traffic incidents
- antisocial behaviour
- lost or stolen vehicles
- civil disputes
- hate crime
- fraud, bribery and corruption
We also have dedicated forms so you can tell us if you’ve seen anything suspicious or something you think we should know about.
All online reports are dealt with in the same way as calls to 101, but can be quicker and more efficient for you, as you won't have to wait on the line for an operator as you might have to when calling 101.
Please provide as much detail and information as possible when submitting an online report.
After every online report is submitted:
- We’ll take the report and issue you with a crime reference number. How quickly we can do this depends on the complexity of the incident and the number of other authorities involved.
- Then, our Investigations Management Unit (IMU) make sure the relevant information has been collected. If there are not enough witnesses, evidence or statements, the IMU may have to close the case. If the crime needs to be further looked into, an investigation will begin and another reference number will be given to you.
- The crime report will then be sent to investigating officers. It won’t be until this point that an officer will be able to make contact with you.
- And finally, an officer will contact you to tell you whether the case will be closed (due to lack of leads) or progressed further.
Please do not worry if you haven't heard back from us for a few days after submitting an online report. Some more complex reports can take time to investigate, and we need to ensure the case is looked through thoroughly before we contact you.
