Motorcycle rider over drink drive limit with pillion passenger

A motorcycle rider caught over the drink drive limit while carrying a pillion passenger has been disqualified.

Police were on patrol on the A1307 at St Ives in the early hours of 15 December when they spotted Dennis Zemaitis swerving across the road.

They pulled the 19-year-old and his passenger over and a breath test revealed he was over the legal drink drive limit of 35 microgrammes with a result of 58 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

In custody, Zemaitis, of Ellingham Avenue, March, provided an evidential sample of 41 microgrammes.

At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Friday (3 January), Zemaitis pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified for 14 months. He was also fined £120.

Sergeant Duncan Hall, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “Zemaitis not only put his own life at risk by riding a motorcycle while over the limit but also the life of his pillion passenger and other road users. There is absolutely no excuse for drink or drug driving.”

Throughout December, police in Cambridgeshire arrested 86 drink and drug drivers as part of a crackdown to make the county’s roads safer.
