A man who “seemed intent on violence” attacked four people in Cambridge, leaving one with a fractured skull.
Jessie Slack, 32, got into an argument with two men in Market Passage at about 3.30am on 11 May.
He threw punches at both men, causing one to end up in a crouched position, before a member of the public intervened and calmed the situation.
Slack left the area, but returned a short time later when he attacked two other men by punching them to the face. The ferocity of the attack knocked one of the men unconscious.
Slack left the area and nearby security staff put the victim in the recovery position.
He was taken to hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull and a traumatic brain injury.
Slack, of no known address, was identified by people at the scene and arrested at a property in Newmarket a few hours later.
He admitted assault causing grievous bodily harm without intent and three counts of assault by beating.
Yesterday (19 September) at Peterborough Crown Court he was jailed for two years.
DC Joanna Mackenzie said: “Slack seemed intent on violence as he attacked people without any provocation in these senseless attacks.
“The victim of the GBH suffered a fractured skull and a brain injury. Thankfully he has recovered but it has been a traumatic experience for him and his family.
“The injuries could have been even worse, with this incident bearing all the hallmarks of a one-punch killing. It is only by luck that this was not the case.”
