A man who hit his victim with a bike lock and grabbed him by the throat in an unprovoked attack has been jailed.
Stephen Gervis was captured on CCTV hitting another man over the head with a D lock before putting both hands round the 47-year-old’s throat in Victoria Avenue, Cambridge, on 6 September.
The victim called police at about 11pm and 43-year-old Gervis was arrested. He was found in possession of a snapped off golf club and a blade.
At Cambridge Crown Court on Monday (7 October), Gervis, of East Road, was sentenced to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a bladed article, possession of an offensive weapon and assault. Two previous suspended sentences were also activated.
Detective Constable Anderson-Chapman, who investigated, said: “Gervis launched an unprovoked attack on the victim, causing him to fear for his safety. We hope this sentence provides some reassurance to the victim and Gervis continues to get the support he needs.”
