A drink driver who hit a moped on the A14 has lost his licence.
Police were called to the A14 near Histon on 30 August after Graeme Bull hit the moped at about 10.30pm with his BMW.
Bull, 38, of Lambourne Road, Hardwick, initially drove away from the scene but returned a short while later stating he panicked.
He provided a roadside sample of 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – over the legal limit of 35 microgrammes. However, he failed to provide an evidential sample in custody.
The rider of the moped, a man in his 20, suffered minor injuries.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (17 October), Bull was disqualified from driving for 18 months after pleading guilty to failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He must also carry out 100 hours unpaid work.
PC Elizabeth Cook said: “There is no excuse for choosing to get behind the wheel of a car while over the drink or drug drive limit. Bull’s decision this day put other road users live at risk.”
Cambridgeshire Constabulary operates a confidential, 24/7 hotline to report suspected drink or drug drivers on 0800 032 0845.
