A disqualified driver who crashed his van while drunk has been jailed.
Silian Tudor, 37, was involved in a collision with a car in Lincoln Road, Millfield, Peterborough, on 2 October.
Response police officers were flagged down by a member of the public who had seen the collision, and they were pointed towards Tudor as the van driver.
He was arrested after he failed a breath test and blew 74 in custody – the limit being 35.
Despite initially giving officers false details, Tudor, of Lincoln Road, Peterborough city centre, was identified in custody and checks found he was disqualified from driving until September next year.
He admitted drink driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance and appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (3 October) where he was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
He also had his existing driving ban extended by three years, meaning he is now disqualified until September 2028.
PC Jess Broome, who investigated, said: “Tudor had no regard for the harm he could have caused and tried to hide his driving disqualification by giving false details.
“There is no excuse for driving under the influence of drink or drugs and I urge anyone planning to have a drink to arrange alternative transport.”
The force operates a dedicated, confidential hotline – 0800 032 0845 – which is available 24/7 and gives the public with the chance to provide information about anyone they think may be driving under the influence.
Information about drink driving, the law and the penalties, can be found on the force’s dedicated road safety information webpages.
