A Cambridge shoplifter who headbutted a police officer has been jailed for a year.
Danny Morning, 28, of New Street, Cambridge, was arrested by the officer on 19 March for a string of shoplifting incidents across the city.
While in custody he was searched and found with a knife and went on to headbutt the officer.
At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Friday (3 May), Morning was sentenced to 52 weeks in prison after previously pleading guilty to 12 counts of theft between February and March, assaulting a constable, possession of a knife, burglary and two counts of common assault.
The court also granted a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which states he must not:
Enter Poundland, Broadway, Peterborough
Enter any Co-Op, Sainsbury’s, Budgens within the A14, M11 and A11
PC Lauren Rouse, from the Spree Offending Team, said: “Morning is a prolific shop thief who, in this most recent period of offending, has assaulted two shop workers and now a police officer. The prison sentence reflects the seriousness of his actions.
“We continue to work closely with businesses across the city to tackle shop theft and encourage businesses affected to report any incidents which will be taken seriously by police.”
