Man arrested following discovery of Ely cannabis factory

A man has been arrested following the discovery of a cannabis factory in Ely.

Acting on information received from members of the public, officers visited a home in Elderberry Close, yesterday (11 March) evening where they found two bedrooms and a loft containing around 100 cannabis plants.

A 26-year-old man from Ely has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and possession of drugs. He remains in custody.

Sergeant Mat Lupton-Pike, from the East Cambridgeshire Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Thanks to information from the community, this illegal drug will no longer reach the streets.

“Drug trafficking is a source of revenue for organised crime groups, many of whom are involved in other forms of serious crime and modern-day slavery.

“We encourage people to look out for signs of illegal cannabis factories including blacked out windows, unusual smells and people coming and going various times of the day.”
