Drug dealer tried to bite and spit at officers

A drug dealer who lashed out and assaulted officers at a South Cambridgeshire railway station has been jailed.

Aman Gahuniya, 23, was found acting erratically at Great Shelford Railway Station at about 6pm on 25 August last year, having fallen off his bike and injuring his head.

Gahuniya kept dropping £10 and £20 notes and a mobile phone and when officers searched him, they found multiple bags of cannabis, plastic zip lock bags, £90 in cash, a set of scales and a burner Nokia phone.

After being arrested for possession with intent to supply cannabis, Gahuniya became resistant and aggressive towards officers, attempting to bite one of them on the arm.

Gahuniya also tried to spit at a British Transport Police officer who was assisting, before pushing him into the cell in the police van and injuring the officer’s shoulder.

Yesterday (Thursday, 14 March), at Cambridge Crown Court, Gahuniya, of Old Mead Lane, Bishop’s Stortford, was jailed for two years having pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker. 

He also activated a previous suspended sentence.

DC Callum Fullwood, who investigated, said: “Drugs cause nothing but pain and misery for everyone who directly and indirectly comes into contact with them, so I’m pleased we’ve helped to take another dealer off the streets.

“Not only this, Gahuniya also subjected my colleagues to all kinds of shameful verbal abuse and disgracefully assaulted them. He can reflect on his senseless and dangerous behaviour in prison.”
