Dangerous driver banned for six years

A dangerous driver who put lives at risk before crashing into a hedge has lost his licence.

Police first spotted Albert Loveridge stationary in his white transit van on the A10 between Chittering and Stretham on 16 February after colliding with a grey van.

However, the 63-year-old made off in his vehicle before officers could speak to him. He was later captured on dash cam footage overtaking a lorry along the busy road and knocking a wing mirror off the side of an oncoming Vauxhall Crossland.

A few moments later the force control room was contacted by a member of the public reporting a white van had crashed into a hedgerow.

Officers found Loveridge in the passengers seat claiming his ‘mate was driving’.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday (13 March), Loveridge, of Church Road, Wicken, Ely, was disqualified from driving for six years after previously pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was also given a 12-month community order and must pay a £500 fine.

A police spokesperson said: “Loveridge showed absolutely no regard for other users by driving in this incredibly dangerous manner. He put the lives of others, not to mention himself at risk.

“He will now be off the roads for a considerable period of time thanks to the sentence imposed by the courts.”
