A man who stalked his ex-partner and threw a knife at her has been jailed.
Andrzej Kopysc, 53, was reported to have gone to the victim’s home in Cambridge and hit the front door with a hammer on 3 September.
It was also reported he waved the hammer in the woman’s face and threatened her, before police arrived and he was arrested.
He was released on bail with conditions not to contact the victim or go to her home.
However, on 7 November, Kopysc returned to the woman’s home and banged on the windows, before going back a week later and attempting to hang himself on a tree outside the property.
The following day he went back for a third time and banged on the windows before leaving the area.
The victim told officers about a further incident in June last year when Kopysc had thrown a knife at her, causing a cut to her upper arm.
When officers went to see the victim again, to let her know he had been arrested, she showed them text messages he had sent her while on bail.
Kopysc was charged and remanded into custody at HMP Peterborough. Whilst in prison he wrote to the victim asking her to help him.
Kopysc, of no known address, admitted assaulting a person causing actual bodily harm and stalking. He denied threatening a person with an offensive weapon and the charge was ordered to lie on file.
On Friday (14 June) at Cambridge Crown Court he was jailed for 19 months.
DC Charmaine Wood said: “Kopysc’s behaviour towards the victim was disgusting.
“The knife attack could easily have been much worse and resulted in more serious injury.
“Not content with attacking her, he then went on to harass her as she tried to carry on with her life.
“We will continue to do all we can to protect victims of domestic abuse and bring perpetrators before the courts.”
