A man who stole goods from shops across Cambridge has been sent to prison.
Jamie Williams, 27, of Sackville Close, Cambridge, was arrested by police on Tuesday after he was identified on CCTV images as being responsible for a number of thefts in the city.
Between 9 December and 2 January, Williams stole coffee, chocolate, laundry products, meat and cheese worth more than £500 from Co-Ops in Chesterton Road, Milton Road and Cambridge Square as well as perfume from TK Maxx in Sidney Street.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court yesterday, (10 January), Williams pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison. He must also pay £500 in compensation.
PC Alex Thake, who investigated, said: “Shoplifting can have a huge impact on both businesses and those who work for them and often comes hand in hand with other crimes. We’re committed to working alongside businesses that are victims of theft to catch those responsible and put them before the courts.”
