A violent thug who attacked a nightclub bouncer with a glass bottle and assaulted police officers has been jailed.
Michael Roberts, 44, was seen being violent towards the doorstaff outside a nightclub in Market Passage, Cambridge, at about 00:30am on Thursday, 22 June, last year.
He had attacked one of them with a broken wine bottle, spat and was verbally abusive before being restrained by them and assisted by officers called to the scene by CCTV operators.
Roberts had been shouting at passers-by before the doorstaff intervened and Roberts went to pick up the wine bottle.
After being arrested and taken to Parkside custody, Roberts was abusive and kicked out at one of the officers but missed.
He also kicked and spat at the custody sergeant.
On Wednesday (6 February), at Cambridge Crown Court, Roberts, of Temple Road, Oxford, was jailed for eight months having pleaded guilty to affray, possession of an offensive weapon in public, assault and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
He received no separate penalty for using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress.
PC Cox said: “Roberts was incredibly violent towards the doorstaff and shamefully assaulted officers going about their job.
“We will not tolerate these disgraceful assaults on colleagues or anyone so I am glad he is now behind bars.”
