A man has been jailed after being caught carrying a knife for the third time in Cambridge.
Liam Berna was arrested in King Street yesterday afternoon for bike theft, theft and common assault when he was found with a knife.
The 31-year-old was previously charged with knife offences in February 2022 and March last year (2023).
At Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court today (29 February), Berna, of no fixed address, admitted carrying the knife. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting a shop worker at the Co-Op in Milton Road on 18 November and stealing a milkshake and stealing a bike from Trinity Hall College on 2 November.
He was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison.
PC Rob Tindall, from the Cambridge city neighbourhood team, said: “Some people think that carrying a knife provides them with protection. What it actually does it put them, their friends and family in danger and increase the chances of being hurt.”
