Man jailed for a string of offences

A man has been jailed after pleading guilty to a string of offences.

Amos Price, 41, of no fixed address, broke into a bar in St Andrew’s Street, Cambridge, overnight on 19 September and made off with alcohol worth hundreds of pounds.

On 24 November he broke into a pub in Castle Street and stole £30 from the coat pocket of a member of staff.

This year on 3 February he took a charity box and two cans of beer from the Co-Op in Mill Road and the following day took a scarf and a coat from a vehicle parked in Gilbert Road.

Price was identified on CCTV at all of the locations and while in custody he assaulted one police officer and racially abused another.

At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday (16 February), Price was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary, two counts of beating of an emergency worker, theft, theft from a motor vehicle and racially aggravated harassment.

Sergeant Dan Scott said: “Price is an opportunist thief who targets businesses and individuals across the city for little gain for himself but at the detriment of his victims. We hope this sentence provides reassurance to those impacted by his actions that he will be off the streets for a while.”
