A drink driver who was stopped by traffic officers in Peterborough has been banned from driving for three years.
Armandas Barcauskas, 26, was stopped in Burghley Road, Peterborough city centre, in the early hours of 1 November, due to his poor driving.
He was seen to be pulling into traffic erratically, swerving across the road, and not maintaining a consistent speed.
He was arrested and charged with drink driving after he blew 68 – the legal limit being 35 – as well as driving without insurance and driving without a licence, due to being a provisional licence holder.
Barcauskas, of The Whaddons, Huntingdon, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday (2 December), where he was handed a three-year driving disqualification and required to pay a £368 fine after admitting the offences.
Sergeant Ian Leeson said: “Driving while under the influence of drink or drugs reduces your concentration and ability to react, putting yourself and other road users at risk of serious harm.
“Thankfully, we were able to stop and arrest Barcauskas before anything happened.”
The case comes as part of the force's festive campaign cracking down on drink and drug drivers, with a warning that doing so could destroy lives.
Throughout December, officers are carrying out roadside checks across the county and people are also being reminded of the 24/7 confidential, dedicated hotline to report drink and drug drivers on 0800 032 0845. If someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.
