A man who was caught drink driving after being at a pub in Fenland has been handed a £1,392 fine and disqualified from driving for a year.
Lewis Beeken, 34, had been drinking at a pub in March on the evening of 19 November when his partner tried to stop him from driving home.
The pair began arguing which prompted a call to police from concerned members of the public.
Officers found Beeken in High Street, March, where he was arrested after being found over the drink-drive limit of 35 – he blew 44 in a roadside breath test.
Beeken, of Teachers Close, Manea, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday (2 December) where he was disqualified from driving for a year and fined £1,392 after admitting drink driving.
PC Jamie King, who investigated, said: “There is absolutely no excuse for drink driving, even if it is just a short distance.
“Alcohol affects everyone differently and any amount can impair your ability to drive. The only safe option is to avoid alcohol completely if you’re driving as even ‘just one drink’ could put you over the limit.”
The case comes during the force’s festive campaign cracking down on drink and drug drivers, with a warning that doing so could destroy lives forever.
Throughout December, officers are carrying out roadside checks across the county and people are also being reminded of the 24/7 confidential, dedicated hotline to report drink and drug drivers on 0800 032 0845. If someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.
