A man has been handed a jail sentence after slashing a man’s arm during a fight.
Kieran O’Brien, 37, of St Michael’s Gate, Peterborough, got embroiled in an altercation outside his home at about 5.25pm on 13 February.
As children nearby watched on, the argument quickly escalated into a brawl after the victim accused O’Brien of slashing his car tyres.
Captured on CCTV, O’Brien was seen brandishing a knife towards the victim, who had taken his belt off and swung it towards O’Brien in a bid to create space.
A resident managed to tackle O’Brien to the ground and took the knife from him, which was seized by officers when they arrived at the scene.
While in custody, O’Brien became violent towards officers, attempting to punch them and kicked one in the leg.
O’Brien pleaded guilty to affray, possessing a knife in a public place and assaulting an emergency worker.
He was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison at Huntingdon Law Courts on Thursday (25 April).
DC Thomas Adams, who investigated, said: “Thankfully, CCTV captured the attack and I pay tribute to the bravery of the bystander who took the knife from him. O’Brien is a danger to the public and I am pleased he is behind bars.
“Tackling street-based violence is a force priority and we will continue to do all we can to take as many offensive weapons off the streets of Cambridgeshire as possible, as well as educating the public on the dangers and consequences of carrying such weapons.”
