A shoplifter who stole sweets, meat and cheese from shops across the city has been jailed.
Sujen Ali, of Queens Meadow, Cambridge carried out eight thefts between 1 July and 1 September at Co-Ops in Adkins Corner, Hills Road and Perne Road.
The 41-year-old stole items worth more than £800 including £250 in sweets, chicken, prawns, salmon and coffee.
On 30 August he also broke into a vehicle in High Street, Cherry Hinton, and stole a pair of sunglasses worth £200.
At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (6 September) he was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to eight counts of theft, theft from a motor vehicle and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Ali’s five year CBO remains in place until November 2027 and states he must not enter any Co-Op within the M11, A14 and A11 boundaries.
PC Rebecca Bertozzi-Wilson said: “Ali has caused misery to staff at Co-Ops across the city. Shoplifting can have a huge impact on both businesses and those who work for them and often comes hand in hand with other crimes including criminal damage and violence. We hope this sentence will provide some much-needed respite to the staff who have endured his offending.”
