International Control Room Week is an annual event dedicated to celebrating Control Room staff all over the world.
Specially trained Demand Hub staff currently deal with around 9,400 calls, 5,300 incidents, and 350 webchats each week. To recognise the hard work and resilience that is necessary to tackle this demand, Cambridgeshire Constabulary will be taking to social media to recognise their Control Room’s ‘unsung heroes’.

To coincide with Control Room Week, the force will also be running its fourth annual live Tweetathon on 27 October to demonstrate the reality of the demand the force faces. A Tweet will be posted live from the Demand Hub to the force’s @CambsCops Twitter account every time an incident comes in between 4pm and 11pm.
It is hoped that the Tweetathon will provide the public with an insight into the volume, variety and complexity of calls and incidents that staff must be equipped to deal with.
Detective Superintendent Michael Branston said: “We have a really remarkable team of call handlers, dispatchers and supervisors in our Demand Hub. They work in a very challenging environment, and have to remain strong, resilient, kind and supportive throughout. They often do not get the public recognition that they deserve which is why this campaign is so important.
“They are there for the people of Cambridgeshire 24/7, whether that be on 999, 101 or web chat, and their actions whilst at work can make the world of difference to somebody’s life, who could be contacting us in their worst moment.
“This week is opportunity for us to say thank you to them and to show how much their dedication, hard work and understanding is appreciated.”
