A shoplifter who stole giftsets from a shop in Peterborough has been given a suspended sentence.
Charlie White, 36, was caught on CCTV stealing two Soap & Glory giftsets worth £70 each from Boots in Queensgate Shopping Centre on 2 December.
The shop’s security guard recognised White as being banned from the store so approached him, but White ran out of the store and got on his bike.
The guard caught up to him and managed to recover the stolen items before reporting the offence to police.
Officers arrested him near his home address in Park Road, Millfield, after CCTV operators spotted him and reported it.
White appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday (11 December) where he was sentenced to 12-weeks in prison, suspended for a year, after pleading guilty to theft from a shop.
PC Luke Cooke, who investigated, said: “During the sentencing proceedings, the court took into consideration the positive ways that White is trying to get his life back on track, through securing accommodation with the help of an outreach team and getting help from other agencies as well, resulting in a suspended sentence being given.
“However, if White takes advantage of this second chance given to him and commits another offence, the court will be able to activate the suspended sentence and he will spend time in Prison.”
