Man beat victim with a baton

10 Jun 2021

A man who beat his victim multiple times with a baton in an unprovoked attack has been jailed.

Vincent Marsh grabbed the 37-year-old man from behind and put a baton across his throat in Fen Road, Chesterton on 12 January.

The man attempted to run away but Marsh caught up with him and proceeded to strike him more than ten times on the head and back causing him to fall to the ground.

Marsh, 53, of Newmarket Road, Cambridge then made off on a bike and the victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for lacerations on his face and head.

At Cambridge Crown Court today (9 June) Marsh was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after previously pleading guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Constable Matt Smith said: “Marsh is a violent individual who carried out a completely unprovoked attack. His obscene and violent behaviour will now serve him a substantial time behind bars.”
