Man jailed following violent attack on homeless man

28 Apr 2021

A man has been jailed after he attacked a homeless man while on a night out in Peterborough.

Ben Lamb, 22 began arguing with the victim at about 11pm on 27 March after he came across him sitting in Priestgate.

Lamb lashed out and punched the victim before repeatedly kicking him in the face with such force he stumbled away from the scene with a limp.

Lamb grabbed a plank of wood and returned, hitting the victim to the head and body while he lay helpless on the floor.

The attack had been seen by CCTV operators and police arrived shortly afterwards to arrest Lamb who had tried to flee.

Lamb admitted charges of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, causing actual bodily harm and affray.

Yesterday (27 April) Lamb, of Peake Close, Peterborough, was jailed for 18 months at Peterborough Crown court.

DC Melanie Mathieson said: “This was a particularly nasty, unprovoked attack and the victim was lucky to escape without life-threatening injuries.

“I hope this sentence gives Lamb the time he needs to reflect on his actions and that he will think twice before lashing out with such violence again.”
