Man attacked with metal poles

A man has been taken to hospital after being attacked with metal poles near a river in Peterborough.

Officers were called just after midnight today (27 July) with reports of violence on the Embankment.

The man was sat outside a tent when he was approached by three men, armed with metal poles, and hit repeatedly.

Officers arrived on scene, together with paramedics. The man in his 50s suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and has been taken to hospital.

The incident is believed to be isolated and officers currently remain on scene while further investigations are carried out, including enquiries to locate the three men.
