Man armed with kitchen knife sentenced

4 May 2021

A man who waved a knife around in public and threatened to stab someone has been sentenced.

James Spencer, 30, went armed with a kitchen knife to a friend’s house in Ditton Fields, Cambridge on 5 August last year (2020).

Whilst at the property, Spencer asked the victim for a man’s number. When questioned why he needed their number, he replied ‘I’m going to stab him’.

Officers found Spencer nearby in Ditton Field’s play park. The knife he carried was recovered from the ground next to him and he was arrested.

Spencer, of Ditton Fields, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on 27 April where he was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months after pleading guilty to possession of a knife in a public place. He must also carry out 180 hours unpaid work.

PC Paul Sinclair said: “Knives are dangerous and there is no place for them on our streets. Anyone caught with a knife will be arrested and put before the courts.”
