Crown Street murder victim named

Detectives have named a man who was killed in Peterborough on Saturday morning (8 May).

We were called out to a flat in Crown Street, New England, at about 5am where it was reported there had been a fight and a man had been stabbed.

Despite efforts from paramedics, 22-year-old Daniel Szalasny (pictured) of Princes Gardens in Eastfield, Peterborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination took place yesterday which concluded Daniel died as a result of a stab wound to his chest.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Peterborough on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of assisting an offender, however he has since been released on bail to return to Thorpe Wood Police Station on 4 June.

DCI Emma Pitts, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit (MCU), said: “Our investigation is progressing and we continue to interview a number of witnesses, as well as locate the person responsible therefore I am still appealing for anyone who may have information to get in touch.”
