REQUEST UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 Ref No: FOI2019/04487

I write in connection with your request for information received on 12th July. I note you seek access to the following information:

I’d like to request the following information under the FOI Act: How many domestic violence offences has your force recorded where the suspected perpetrator was identified as male in the last ten years? Please break this down by calendar year.

Eg:

2009: XXX

2010: XXX

2011: XXX

Can I also ask how many domestic violence offences have you recorded in the last ten years where the victim was male? Please can this also be broken down by calendar year.

I am required by the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (The Act) to handle all requests in a manner that is blind to the identity of the requestor. Any information released in response to a request is regarded as being published and therefore, in the public domain without caveat.

Response

Cambridgeshire Constabulary has conducted a search of our crime recording system for the data requested. Please note the definition of Domestic Abuse was widened in 2013 therefore data from before this date is not directly comparable.

Domestic abuse stats
Year Number of recorded crimes with a domestic abuse marker where there was a male suspect  Number of recorded crimes with a domestic abuse marker where there was a male victim
2009 2094  463
2010 2481  563
2011 2240  437
2012 2656  512
2013 2610  558
2014 3463  807
2015 3811  967
2016 4883  1363
2017 5717  1736
2018  5694 1623

Please note - that this count is for the total number of crimes rather than the total number of suspects/victims, and that in some cases there may be more than victim and suspect on a crime which may not be of the same gender.

The numerical data presented in this response is an un-audited snapshot of un-published data sourced from "live" systems and is subject to the interpretation of the original request by the individual extracting the data.

Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter please do not hesitate to contact me quoting the above reference number.

Yours sincerely
