Personal information handling policy

Below are the principles the Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers apply when handling personal information.

These principles are written in accordance with Cambridgeshire Constabular's overarching Privacy policy.

  1. The Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers collects and uses personal information so they can provide a service to victims of crime who reside in Cambridgeshire.
  2. The Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers will hold your data for the purpose of providing you with assistance following you being a victim of a crime. This information will be treated in confidence.
  3. Personal information may be held or processed for specific purposes outside those detailed above. These circumstances could include; the prevention or detection of crime, the prosecution or apprehension of offenders, national security, and public safety.
  4. Personal information is handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and in accordance with the notification detailed on the ICO website using registration number Z4882190.
  5. The Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers collects and uses information to provide support to victim's of crime. Third party service providers may be used to assist with the provision of support for a victim of crime. The Victims’ Hub will only share information to third party service providers with your explicit consent unless we are required to do so by law or it is in the overriding public interest to do so.
  6. Where a crime has been reported in Cambridgeshire but the victim resides in another police force the victim's details will be shared with the victims' service provider for that police force.
  7. The Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers takes great care to ensure information held is accurate, kept up-to-date and destroyed when no longer required.
  8. The Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers uses a variety of physical, technical and procedural measures to protect personal information from unauthorised or accidental disclosure, loss or corruption.
  9. Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers staff are trained in the appropriate procedures and policies for correct handling of personal information.
  10. On occasion the Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers will 'sign post' victims to other organisations who may be able to provide support to victims of crime. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these organisations. We recommend reading the privacy/ information handling policy for these organisations, which may be available on their website homepage.
  11. You have the right to opt out of receiving a service from the Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers at any time. All contact from the Victim and Witness Care Delivery Managers will cease from this point. Your data may be retained on record where it is proportionate to do so.
