OFFICERS carried out raids at 14 properties as part of a major police operation in Cambridge.

The warrants, which resulted in 16 arrests, took place last week to send a message to thieves and drug dealers operating in the city.

The raids took place in Ditton Lane, Dennis Road, Willow Walk, Howard Road, Perse Way, Discovery Way, Cam Causeway, Eastfield, Stevenson Court and Edgecome Road and have seized class A and B drugs.

The operation, codenamed Bind, involved 40 officers and aimed at driving out drug dealers from the city as well as targeting other problems highlighted by residents.

Arrests were made on suspicion of assault, burglary, possessing drugs with intent to supply, going equipped and supplying drugs.

Sergeant Jamie Stenton, who led the raids, said: "This was a major operation which we are doing at the start of the year to set the bar for the rest of the year and to send a message to criminals operating in Cambridge.

"Operation Bind was a high visibility operation with the intention of demonstrating that Cambridge city is a hostile place for criminals to operate, 14 warrants were conducted alongside numerous patrols targeting burglary, theft and drugs alongside local priorities given to us by the community.

"The successes of this operation will be built upon and we will continue to ruthlessly disrupt, catch and convict criminals in our city."
