Men jailed for prison killing

23/02/2010 09:35:42

THREE men have been jailed for killing a fellow inmate by carrying out plans to attack him at Peterborough prison.

Sebastian Waller, 26, of Moorland Court, Skaters Way, Peterborough, and Shane Farrington, 25, of HMP Peterborough, were each sentenced to nine years for the manslaughter of 33-year-old Brian Haynes.

The men, who were found guilty in December following a trial at Norwich Crown Court, were told they would not be released until they were deemed not to be a danger to the public.

A third man Paul Jefford, 24, of Wellington Street, Peterborough, who had already pleaded guilty to manslaughter, was jailed for six and a half years.

The court had heard that Mr Haynes died of a heart attack after being assaulted in his cell at HMP Peterborough on September 11 2008.

He had been serving a four-year sentence for drug dealing and causing grievous bodily harm by attacking a stranger with a baseball bat in Cambridge in December 2007.

The court heard resentment had grown over Mr Haynes' reputation for dealing drugs and tobacco.

The injuries Mr Haynes suffered were not serious enough to kill him but an underlying health condition caused him to have a heart attack. His body was discovered by a prison officer that evening during lock-up.
