03/02/2010 10:21:31

A WOMAN was hit on the head and knees by a man brandishing a baseball bat.

The 22-year-old had parked her car in Owlstone Croft, Cambridge, and got out of her vehicle. She saw a man running towards her with his arms outstretched and then felt a blow to the back of her head, causing her to fall to the floor. The man then hit her knees several times with what has been described as a metal baseball bat.

Someone who witnessed the assault banged on their window and scared the attacker off. He ran out of the car park entrance into Owlstone Road.

The victim was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital and later discharged. She has been left with severe bruising.

It happened at 4.45pm on Friday (January 29). The man is described as white, six foot, wearing a black hooded top with the words 'Fight Club' in white on the back of the top. He wore his hood up. He carried a baseball bat described as black with a white tip and was aged in his late teens to early 20s.

Detective Sergeant Lindsay Harbour said: "This was a terrifying attack for the victim. Luckily there was someone in the area who scared off the attacker.

"At this stage we are treating this as an isolated incident.

"I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this attack who hasn't yet come forward and anyone who saw a man in dark clothing running away from the scene possibly carrying a bat.

"The victim was left extremely shaken "
